Science World 2008 – More Bangs and Flashes please!

Fisher Scientific’s 17th Science World event took place on 6th November at Sandown Park, Surrey.  Dubbed ‘the Laboratory Experience’, Science World featured 80 world-class exhibitors plus seminars, workshops, games, competitions, mad science, big bangs, virtual horseracing, an MP, horse doping and a life size ‘Operation’.

Visitors took full advantage of the diverse range of free activities on offer.  In between learning about products and applications they were treated to seminars ranging from Ian Taylor MP to bacteriophage therapy, tours of Sandown Park and even a relaxing head and shoulder massage when they needed a break.

New for 2008 were Dr Hal Sowabowski, and his colleague, Dave ‘Sideshow’ Campbell, who conducted demonstrations throughout the day, including cryogenic capers with liquid nitrogen, a chemical dog whose bark really was worse than its bite and a white knuckle ride with kinetics.  A big hit with visitors and exhibitors alike – ‘More bangs and flashes please!’, commented Chris Bland from Fisher Global Chemicals.

As Karen Kenward from DEFRA remarked, ‘People were so friendly, never pushy – and it was worthwhile.  Lunch was amazing!  Brilliant!  See you next year.’
